On September 26, Hanoi inaugurated the first phase of the Vinh Tuy Bridge in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
The Vinh Tuy Bridge is one of seven bridges spanning over the Red River and is recognized as Hanoi’s major transport project.
The bridge completes the zoning plan for belt-road No 2, which will help improve the transportation infrastructure, ease traffic congestion in urban areas and boost socio-economic development between Hanoi, the Red River Delta and coastal provinces.
Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee Chair Nguyen The Thao remarked that the opening of Vinh Tuy Bridge is a significant step in the lead up to the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The first phase of the project began in March 2005 at a total cost of 3,600 billion dong, and the second phase is due to begin in August 2011, with total investment capital of more than 2,000 billion dong.
