The bourse's trading volume declined by a whopping 42.5 per cent over yesterday's levels to just 33.4 million shares worth slightly more than VND908 billion (US$46.6 million). On the bourse, 105 shares lost their value, 80 rallied and 71 remained unchanged.
Many blue-chips posted slight gains today, including Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietcombank (VCB), Phu My Fertiliser (DPM), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), Kinh Bac City Development (KBC), Kinh Do Corp (KDC) and Tu Liem Urban Development (NTL).
Ocean Group (OGC) was still the most active stock on the exchange. The bourse's trading volume continued to backslide as 2.3 million shares changed hands, a decrease of nearly 84 per cent from yesterday's level. OGC dropped to its floor price at VND35,800 ($1.84).
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange the HNX-Index closed at 131.53.
About 26 million shares worth VND655.1 billion ($33.6 million) changed hands, a decrease of about 35 per cent in both volume and value over yesterday's levels.
Among 338 codes, 99 advanced, 176 declined and 63 remained unchanged.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) continued to be the most active stock on the bourse with 2.1 million shares traded. PVX slid by 1.64 per cent to VND23,800 ($1.22) per share on average.
Viet Nam Banks Association yesterday asked commercial banks in the south to lower their deposit interest rates to less than 11 per cent per year, but these banks declined to reduce the rates further as they wait for Circular 13 review results.
