Thus, it was the 4th continuous month the sales of VAMA members decreased compared to the same period last year. Like previous months, most major manufacturers suffered this drop.
Ford was probably the member suffering worst in the past month with only 568 cars sold, decreasing by 45% compared to October last year. GM Daewoo was the next to have serious sales decrease with 1,077 units sold, drop by 34%. Truong Hai remained the name that worth honoring in the past month with strong momentum of growth of 33% and reached 2,672 units. With this result, Truong Hai, though ranked number 2 in the October chart, still got close consumption rate to Toyota’s (with 2,700 units).
In the top 10 best-selling cars chat of 10/2010, the leading model, Innova, grew slightly compared to the previous month, reaching 639 units. This was also the best sales month of this MPV model in many recent months. Meanwhile, its new opponent, Nissan Grand Livina, had a rough month when only 40 cars were sold to consumers.
Another noteworthy case in the past month was the Chevrolet Cruze with sales reaching up to 318 units - the best results since its official introduction in mid-April. Gaining the 6th position in the October top 10 best-selling chart was the best position this model could reach since its release. Kia Morning also scored a goal in October when having 379 units sold. This was also the best sales month of this popular compact model in the past four years.
After four months of consecutive decline, the accumulative sales volume of all VAMA members by the end of the 10th month in 2010 reached 88,600 units, decreasing by 4% over the same period last year. Among them, sedans increased by 2%, while commercial cars and MPVs, respectively, decreased by 2% and 14%.
For cumulative sales ranking in 10 months, Toyota ranked first with 24,311 units, outdistancing No. 2 Truong Hai up to over 4,000 units. Although there were still 2 months to end of 2010, we could possibly predict the leading positions in Vietnamese car market in this year.
