Phu Van Bridge Project

Phu Van Bridge crosses Nhue river and it is located in the area of Phu Ly town.  This location is within the plan of upgrading infrastructure for natural disaster prevention in the flood control zone of Day river in Ha Nam province and the plan on transport development in Ha Nam province in the period 2003-2010, and orientation towards 2020. The old bridge was built a long time ago and it is narrow, small, and made of steel beam; its concrete deck has been degraded so it does not meet current traffic needs.

Bridge section:

  • Scope: bridge is built to be permanent
  • Design load: HL-93, pedestrian section 3 kN/m2 under procedure 22TCN272-05
  • Bridge width: K = 15.0m, total width B = 16.0m
  • Simple span bridge with super-T pre-stressed and pre-cast beam
  • Span diagram (39 +4 x40 +39) m
  • Upper structure: cross-section is 16m wide, including 07 super-T beam slabs; distance between beams is 2.22m; beam-height is 1.75m. Bridge deck is made of reinforced concrete poured in place with thickness ranging from 15-22cm.
  • Lower structure: Bridge support is made of reinforced concrete poured in place on bored pile foundation with a diameter of 1.5m
  • Navigational clearance - river level V: B = 25m, H = 3.5m.
  • Seismological level: Level 8 under Standard 22TCN 272-05
  • Total length of the bridge calculated up to 02 parapet walls is 248.9m.

02 bridge-end way:

  • Local way has its 80-speed level under Standard 20TCN 104-83 according to TCVN 4054-98.
  • Road bed width: Bbed= 42m 2 ÷ 4 including 2 ÷ 4 motor vehicle lanes with width of 3.75 m per lane; 02 non-motorized vehicle lanes with width of 2.50m per lane; sidewalks have 6.00m wide per side and median strip is 9.00m wide.
  • Road surface designed with high-level A1 Eyc= 1600 daN/cm2
  • Minimum curve radius: Rmin = 250m.
  • Minimum convex vertical curve radius: Rmin = 4,000m.
  • Minimum sag vertical curve radius: Rmin = 1,500m
  • Maximum longitudinal slope IMAX = 6%
  • Surface cross slope 2%; pavement -1.5%
  • Axial design load: 12 tons.

Barrier wall:

  • Bridge-end way is closed to abutment; 02 sides are arranged with shaped U and L reinforced concrete walls on reinforced concrete pile foundations of 30x30cm, 40x40cm and shallow foundation
  • In National highway 1A: wall length L = 116.86m, on reinforced concrete foundation 30x30cm, pile length L = 13-18m
  • In Phu Van commune: wall length L = 144.36m, on reinforced concrete pile foundation 40x40cm; average pile length L = 30-46m and shallow foundation
  • Outside barrier wall is decorated with decorative patterns to increase aesthetics.

After Phu Van Bridge is completed, it will be extremely important to make a main arterial road to connect Phu Ly Town to Phu Van commune in the northwest of the town, creating a transport road to build other infrastructures in the local area in accordance with the approved plan.
